Japan likes to pretend that it’ s a squeaky clean society but having lived there for nearly 22 years, it isn’t. Yes. it is a very safe country but people can buy beer from vending machines, I saw high school boys drinking at night outside arcades, this young woman was doing nothing out of the ordinary nothing I didn’t see almost every night while in country, the reason she is being singled out is because she is an Olympic athlete and this is not the image Japan wants to project to the world.
